Ottavia Pizzo

About me

Ottavia is a Partner of BTG Legal since 2012.

She is a full qualified lawyer member of the Pisa Bar Association. She is enrolled to Camera arbitrale della Camera di commercio della Maremma e del Tirreno as judicial Arbitrator.

Ottavia is a member of Global Insurance Law Connect and follows the following Special Interest Groups: Complex bodily injury claims and health, safety & regulatory, Product Liability & Recall, Property sector.

Degree in law from the University “La Sapienza” of Pisa with a final thesis on criminal procedure entitled “Right to Silence in the English Criminal Procedure – Assessment of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994”.

In a one-year university exchange programme in Spain, Ottavia was an assistant solicitor at the Barcelona law firm Delas & Prat, aimed at deepening family law and administrative law.

She trained at a law firm in Pisa, specialising in civil and employment Ottavia started her collaboration with the Italian law firm Batini & Associati, later renamed Batini Traverso & Associati in 2007. Ottavia has been in-house counsel for a major Lloyd’s adjuster since 2007.

Subjective diversification has allowed her to understand and refine qualified experience from a comprehensive perspective, working with Insurers, Insureds, Brokers and Loss Adjusting Companies, which together form the complex insurance mechanism of professional and medical liability in Italy.

Ottavia mainly handles insurance cases, with specific reference to medical malpractice and professional liability, cooperating with major Italian TPA and loss adjusters for the Lloyd’s Market. In medical malpractice cases she represents both insurers and insured in court matters, and liaises with Italian loss adjusters and their in-house lawyers in advising, examining and handling cases and assisting in estimating reserves. She is also a consultant to several self-insuring Italian hospitals.

Ottavia works with many public authority and government agencies, handling cases concerning their liabilities.

She cooperates with Loss Adjusting Companies  and their attorneys in the assessment of complex claims, the estimation of reserves, providing reasoned opinions and handling individual cases that require assistance in the complex settlement phase, and is involved in the review of files during audits.

Ottavia also deals with public entity liability and product liability, as well as reinsurance.

In addition, with regard to health and professional liability, she drafts policy wordings and reviews texts and documents relating to the insurance market on behalf of insurers.

She participates in training events and attends specialisation courses, collaborating with the observatory on personal injury of the Lider-Lab department of the Scuola Superiore di Specializzazione Sant’Anna in Pisa, and publishing in journals.

She is fluent in English and Spanish.
